The Heartland Drive "you betcha!"

Today we drove. 950 miles.

As we passed through the waving wheat that sure smelled sweet, we were lucky the sun didn’t have to come behind the rain because we were lucky enough for a beautiful day! The sunlight was glistening off the Mississippi’s waters as we crossed between Illinois and Iowa after passing through Ohio and Indiana.

Yelp provided us with a unique restaurant again and is beginning to be a big part of our travels. It brought us to The Village Corner Deli, which is “the best deli since 1941!” We chowed down on some pop and sandwiches bigger than our faces! Even though the sandwiches were good, the cookies were better.

We also experienced the “hospitality” of Iowa when we came across state run roadblock where local police ran a test on each passing vehicle, they graciously offered to tow any cars that were “broken”. Minnesota welcomed us nicely (we all cheered once we left Iowa) and spent the night in South Dakota after a filling meal at Perkins. We are continuing after a long night sleep as we make our way to Mount Rushmore and Mitchell, SD’s corn palace tomorrow!

And finally…SOUTH DAKOTA!!!
